Designer makes mark with thumbprints

By Austin Siegemund-Broka

About four years ago Colleen Berg sat at her brother’s deathbed with her sibling’s two 3-year-old sons and his 1-year-old daughter. Berg, a skilled jewelry designer, was so moved by his passing that she quickly took some of her brother’s fingerprints and, with them, created metal necklaces for the young children as eternal reminders of their father’s life and love.

Wow!! Thank you LA! Out of 55 nominated designers, I was nominated as the best designer in Los Angeles. I am excited and proud and can't believe I received 42% of the vote! Here's the link:

CBJ on KTLA!

I have to say that Allie Mac Kay is awesome! She's a reporter for KTLA and she filmed 3 separate segments in my store highlighting my children's fingerprint and my animal pawprint lines. She did an amazing job. Check out the 2 links to my KTLA spots... there is one more that I'll be sharing as soon as I can grab it from my TIVO.

I connected with an old friend that I went to school with from 1 grade through high school. She's now a teacher and a baker living in Rhode Island. She makes me want to hop on a plane to try some of her yummies. She blogged about me in her blog and I'm sharing.

Thanks Mary. It's so good to be in touch!

With a push from 9-11, Redondo Beach jewelry designer strung a lifelong passion into a new career and lifestyle.

I've written articles in the past trying to help readers find that perfect gift for their men and women in blue. There are times that we really want to give our officers something meaningful as a gift. And I'm sorry, but the latest in ankle-holsters or the newest Spyderco knife just isn't going to work. I've suggested things like St. Christopher medals or miniature family pictures inside keychains or pendants.

Business Profile
Colleen Berg Jewelry

By Jennifer Evans

Wanting it all isn't easy, but as a business owner and mother of two, Colleen Berg said it is definitely worth it.
Slightly more than three years ago, Berg became pregnant with her first child, Sofia. Working as an advertising executive, Berg said she knew after getting pregnant that going back to her full-time career wasn’t an option.
Taking a leap of faith, Berg quit her steady job and decided to work as a freelancer. Things were going as planned until tragedy hit the country Sept. 11, 2001.
“After Sept 11, it was like every day my clients were calling up to cancer their account because everyone was so uncertain about the economy,” Berg said. “It was a really difficult time for us.”
